April, 2008
Dear Friends,
We are fortunate to experience another awakening, which, in Cat Spring, takes the form of wobbly legged calves and colts, incredible fields of Bluebonnet, Poppy, Daisy and Periwinkle color and the unnerving of Cirnechi as they watch the emergence of rabbits and squirrels in the preserve just outside their reach.
On the human side of life, the energy of Spring has happily contaminated your CdECA Board and membership into a flurry of activity setting up activities that will afford greater interaction for the membership and their Cirnechi. Several members of the CdECA Board will be travelling to New Jersey for the Hunting Trial and Seminar the weekend of April 19th and we are looking forward to what promises to be a landmark participation. For those who have never attended, the Hunting trial is not an arduous weekend and, unlike most experiences at “dog events,” we are graced with the organization by our ardent aficionado of the hunt, Domenico Finocchiaro, who not only organizes and conducts the event annually but also provides the “fine dining” experience of the well known Philly “D’Angelos”. In and of itself, an experience necessary in conjunction with any trip to the Philadelphia area. Join in for an understanding and enjoyment of the beauty of the Cirnechi fulfilling their function …you will not be able to resist encouraging your Cirneco in exercising their intelligence and instinctual independence.
May 17th will be our West Coast Reunion in the Bay Area. Greg Bufalini and Terry Baker have taken the laboring oar on organizing the Reunion and have found a new venue for us. More news to follow on this event. Please check “Events” on the CdECA website for updates in the next couple of weeks.
May 31 – June 1 is the ASFA II. That is the “American Sighthound Field Association Invitational International” to be held in Leesburg, VA. Most of our CdECA Board will be present along with our coursing Cirnechi of which we expect at least 10 participants. In 1999 we began the process for breed recognition with ASFA and we are finally in Provisional Status with the expectation of running in our very own recognized breed class beginning in 2009. Please come and help us introduce our breed and our club to the lure coursing community, it promises to be a great weekend with a great group of aficionados and their Cirneco companions.
Just the beginning and much more to follow in the quest to enjoy our Cirnechi in their multi-faceted abilities.
